Dishing it out for Charity Challenge
805 Living Magazine
This year La Bodega will be participating in Dishing out for Charity Challenge with a distinctive dish, and for every one sold during November and December, they have pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds to the charity: 17 Strong.
The charity, 17 strong, provides “Victory trips” to young adults who have battled life-threatening diseases. It was created by a very special young man, Ryan Teixeira, who felt that anyone who experienced aggressive health battles needed something to look forward to. Unfortunately, Ryan Teixeira was never able to participate in any trip as he died on March 4, 2017 after attempting to battle two cancers: Ewing’s Sarcoma and Leukemia at the age of 20. His legacy lives on through his passion to provide encouragement and inspiration for others.
Our bartender, Marcus Perez knew Ryan Teixeira on a personal level. They had grown up playing baseball together, and Marcus was Ryan’s weightlifting coach in high school. They shared the passion of being athletes. Marcus feels the void that Ryan has left, but knows that Ryan has left a very connected community in the Central Coast of California.
“Bodeg-Ka-Bob”, the dish created for this event is very timely, as it represents family. It can be shared and reminds us of a family gathering, which is what anyone fighting a life-threatening disease needs. Our Executive Chef, Fernando Rodriquez, was inspired by Ryan Teixeira’s story and wanted to create a dish that was sharable and comforting. The dish is a fusion of grilled pork belly, tri-tip, bell peppers, pearl onions and mushrooms with a cilantro chimichurri sauce on the side. The beef used in preparing this dish is being purveyed from “Teixeira Cattle Company”, locally in our community of Pismo Beach, CA.
Come join us, in helping us meet the challenge, while enjoying a most delightful dish.
